The EuP Directive
With the Directive on eco-design of energy-using products (EuP - Energy-using Products), the European Union wanted to push a design of equipment that "consume" energy (televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, boilers, pumps, engines and many more) guided on environmental sustainability, to prevent possible negative environmental consequences of production, use and disposal of products.
The objective of the Directive is to require manufacturers and importers to produce and distribute only products with high energy efficiency, or low energy consumption.
The criteria for eco-design will be an integral part of the declaration of conformity (CE mark), that is a necessary requirement for a product to be sold within the EU.
The Directive also applies to wet rotor circulators for heating with less than 2500 W of power.
From 1st January 2013 only the variable speed and permanent magnet motor (PM motor) circulators will meet what is required by the new rules in relation to the Energy Efficiency Index (EEI), which is linked to the consumption of the pump.

* Stand-alone circulators are those commonly sold in the distribution
** Integrated circulators are those which are a component of an appliance, such as boilers, heat pumps, etc...
Therefore, most of the circulators on sale today will be banned from the European market from the 1st January 2013.
In fact, only the best pumps in energy class A shall conform to the EuP directive.
Askoll Energy Saving: Eextra-ordinary energy efficiency
The Askoll Energy Saving pump is a wet rotor type, driven by a permanent magnets synchronous motor (PM motor) controlled by an on board inverter.
Askoll Energy Saving is a variable speed pump characterized by a higher energy efficiency.
Compared with traditional pumps currently on the market with equivalent performance, it consumes up to 80% less electricity: it ensures thus respect for the environment and more savings for families.
Askoll Energy Saving already meets the provisions of Regulation No 641/2009 of the European Commission (EuP Directive) requiring a drastic reduction of energy consumption of circulators from 1 st January 2013.
Why we invest on energy efficinecy
Heating circulation pumps currently installed in the houses of the European Union are more than 100 million and consume more than 50 TWh of electricity each year.
If Askoll Energy Saving became the standard for the already installed pumps, they would save more than 60% of electricity currently used, corresponding to more than 30 TWh per year.
30 TWh/year = consumption of 10.000.000 Italian families
(According to recent studies, the average domestic consumption of electricity of an Italian family is 3,000 KWh per year)
